Common Questions About Co-Founder
Business Partnership Coaching
Got questions about getting help with your business partnership conflict?
Here are some top questions with answers to help.
My work is for co-founders, business partners who believe in the value of continuous improvement and want to boost their performance, synergy, and results on the individual, interpersonal, and organizational levels.
I start with a Business Partnership Assessment consisting of questionnaires and 1:1’s with each of you. You can read more about the details of that here.
At our first appointment, we will review the data from that assessment and determine strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in relation to your priorities and goals. We’ll then determine how to proceed.
Together we will come up with a plan to address the individual, partnership and organizational issues we can address to help you move your business forward. The work usually includes building a stronger working relationship with their business partner and other key stakeholders, addressing individual performance improvement opportunities, and optimizing organizational structure and processes. Some of that work can be done on your own, and some will be done in our business partner sessions, and some may happen in individual sessions.
We will periodically assess our progress and make adjustments as needed and desired.
Of course, this varies for every client. Depends on the initial issues as well as the appetite, willingness, and skillfulness to work through the problematic issues. Successful Co-founder Business Partnership Coaching should result in:
- Collaborative communication where you come to inclusive solutions and resolution around even more difficult-to-discuss issues within your company
- A clear decision-making process in place and your ability to make joint decisions is more clear and less contentious
- Greater agreement and alignment around your organizational structures, roles, responsibilities, and processes
- Tools and processes to individually and collectively address blindspots such that you are both actively working on your goals and growing edges
- As a result of all of the above there is more appreciation, flexibility and creativity and synergy
You can always do work on your own leadership and your side of the partnership and organizational dynamics. Doing so will have some degree of positive benefit to the partnership and organizational agreements and dynamics, but I normally work with both/all partners specifically because the positive benefit is amplified when all partners are actively engaging.
The short answer generalization is that most typically:
- Coaches work to help improve performance and ability to reach your goals
- Mediators facilitate resolution of specific disputes
- Consultants offer analyses and directive guidance in solving their understanding of your problem
- Therapists help you address mood and thought disorders that interfere with day-to-day functioning
- Couples and Marriage Counselors address dysfunctional dynamics within family systems
In my opinion, it is most helpful to work with a co-founder and business partner who has significant training and experience in several, if not all, of the above areas.
You’ll notice in my About Me page that I have been in the counseling field for over 30 years, and became a Collaboration Specialist 20 years ago. I was then trained as an Organization and Relationship Systems Coach, as well as trained as a Mediator, before becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I draw upon all of that experience and training in my work as a Co-Founder and Business Partner Coach.
I recommend careful screening of your potential coach’s experience with your issues in particular, finding out their guiding model, core principles, methodology, assessment process, etc. You might want to also check out their Linked In profile to get a more comprehensive look at their background, and ask about referrals from past clients.
In most situations, I offer remote / online sessions.
For clients who live or travel to San Francisco, the SF North Bay or Kauai for more concentrated work,, I am happy to offer in person.
Sessions are typically 90-120 min in length, according to client preference, and once every week or two, also according to client preference.
After the initial phase of assessment and creating a customized plan, I offer 3+ month packages. At the beginning of each engagement, we start with your goals and assess progress as we go. At the end of the engagement, if you have goals you’d like to continue working on, we’ll continue on.
I provide customized packages so the price varies based on what we determine to be needed for your partnership. The first phase of work is a $2,250 package and if you’d like to continue from there, there are a range of options starting at $1,225/mo from which to choose. I also have a 5-session workshop which costs $1,225 per partnership. When you call for a consultation, we can discuss what is appropriate for your needs and budget.
48 hour notice if you wish to cancel or reschedule a session.
It is important for us to start with the free consultation.
If you haven’t done so already, you are welcome to read more about me, my services, and my perspectives via my blog and to watch a case study video to learn more about me and my work. This way, we can make sure we spend our consultation focused on your goals and how partnership and performance coaching can help.
